FAQs

How can I learn more about Cub Scouts?

We suggest you explore this great resource: https://www.scouting.org/programs/cub-scouts/youth/.

Why do parents like Scouting in Pack 85?

Scouting activities build children’s self esteem
Kids have fun learning practical skills and knowledge
  Lots of achievement recognition
Trips to enjoyable places you might not otherwise have a chance to visit
Meeting other families with similar interests
  Parents and siblings are involved
  Learning about community
Easy participation in high quality events without doing it all yourself
Fun and fellowship for the whole family.

How old (or young) can a child be to join Cub Scouting?

Cub Scouting is for children in the kindergarten through fifth grades. Youth who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting or Venturing program.

How do we join Pack 85?

We will have a Joining Event (often referred to as a Round-Up) at Granbery in August shortly after school starts.  Watch our website for coming details. An eligible child can join Cub Scouts at any time, not just at our Round-Up.

Are girls eligible to join Pack 85?

Emphatically, YES! The Cub Scouts program is open to boys and girls, meaning that all youth will have access to the character development and values-based leadership that Scouting promises and be better prepared for future success.

How can I become an adult volunteer in Cub Scouting?

We welcome parent help. Express your interest to the pack leaders—the Cubmaster, chartered organization representative, or members of the unit committee. They can guide you through the process and point you to areas where the pack needs support.

Must I be a U.S. citizen to join Cub Scouting?

Citizenship is not required of youth or adults to become members of the Boy Scouts of America.

What kind of time commitment is required?

Your child will want to attend den meetings and the monthly pack meeting. There will be some special events on weekends, too. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate, and at the beginning Lion level, participation is mandatory.  It is time well-spent with your child.

What is the cost?

For information on the cost of registering, visit here. Fees are payable in cash, by check made payable to "Cub Scout Pack 85," or by Mastercard/Visa.

You will want to buy your new Cub a handbook for his or her rank and, within a couple of months, an official Cub Scout Uniform uniform.  Lions wear a tee shirt and cap. Other Cubs will have shirts, belts, neckerchiefs, neckerchief slides, belts, and caps. Our Pack is also developing a uniform exchange box for Scout families who wish to pass along outgrown uniforms to other Scouts.

We have fundraisers to help fund Pack activities and there is even a fundraiser (Scout Cards) that can help you raise money toward summer Day Camp or Residence Camp.
